I read that a mirror in which you can see the reflection of the bed will scare your spirit as it roams in the night, is that true? If so, how do I cure the problem of having mirrored closet doors in the room, without removing them?

It is true a mirror cutting the bed will affect your health. You can put red dots on the seam of the doors. Myself I would replace the doors with solid wood doors.

If someone wanted to have a baby what area in their home would affect this and how would you increase the Chi?

Why is it that the Feng Shui compass is supposed to be placed by the main door and have north being placed in our south direction? Or am I misunderstanding the directions of Ba-qua.

You are supposed to take a compass reading from the front of the house and a reading from the back of the house.

My daughter bought a house with the front door facing west. When you open the door the staircase is directly in front of the door. She is only 33 and has now developed arthritis in her arms and feet. It is traveling very fast and already in her wrists. She is a nurse. The doctor is beginning new and aggressive treatment. I felt that this door arrangement was not helping matters. We placed a mirror at the top of the staircase landing and a basket of shells on the bottom step to catch the Chi. She also uses the garage door entrance, however this also faces west. We did all this when she bought the house last September. Do you have any other suggestion? Thank you.

Put a Ba-qua Mirror over the front door entrance facing out. Make sure the porch is well lit. The shape of the walkway to the house is very important. Please forward this information for a more detailed answer.

How can you apply Feng Shui to marriage area when it's placed in the kitchen and fame and reputation is located in the bathroom?

Use the lifestations in the four corners and the walls in your bedroom. In the kitchen you can put a red envelope in the marriage area with your relationship goals as if they have already happened. Also, put a heart and plant in this corner.

I'm Ecuadorian, temporarily residing in Mexico. I am a student. I don't have the time or the money to invest in my environment (not too much). Besides, I don't like red, so the red using tips are difficult for me. What can I use for protection from bad influences instead of the flutes?

Which color or another way for dealing with corners?

The entire house (I use a room) is gray, how can I make it a better environment?

First give up fear. The color read is one of the basic cures for developing positive flowing "Chi". Developing the skills to deal with Feng Shui ailments by methods other than the basic cures such as the color red and flutes take many years to develop and can not be taught in this format.

Read the article on the website regarding Feng Shui Lifestations.

The color grey is not good for your physically or mentally. Green works well with getting rid of fear.

Do you have any advise for one living in a studio apartment/home office? In my case the far left (wealth section) is the washroom, the far right (relationships) is the kitchen, and the entire left wall is my multimedia workstation. The entrance is on the far left, so one must basically enter by stepping to the right of the doorway. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I have a small garden in front of my house which is enclosed by a wall. This means that the first thing I see is the wall when exiting the building. About 150m in front of that wall is a meandering river. However, between the wall and the river is a large house. The building is pointing south. So what can I do to enhance these forces especially the river?

Place a mirror on the wall inside the house facing the river to bring reflections of the river inside.

Our home runs east to west with the front of the home facing west. We have two main entrances that we use. The front door faces north. The other main entrance also faces north. How do I judge where to find the correct placement of the Feng Shui diagram?

Because both entrances face north the life stations will always be the same, to identify the life stations stand in either doorway with the door swings on the diagram closest to your body. It is important that you select one entrance as your main entrance and use it as often as possible. By using both entrances you are dividing the life force entering your home.

What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese science and art that affects every aspect of your life. It is practiced in every village in China. The way they practice it in the villages is different from village to village. That is called folk Feng Shui. Black Hat Taoist Monks have refined all the folklore and brought it into one unified science.

What is "Chi"?

Chi is positive healing energy, like that of a bubbling brook, it filters into us and gives us strength, harmonizes the body and every environment. Its opposite is "Sha" which is hard energy that destroys. Sha comes at you straight, such as wind, energy from a car or that energy you find on a freeway.

How do I know when I have Chi disharmony?

Look at your situation and how you feel. When things have been going well, you have been feelings really good and there is a negative change, there may be something affecting your Chi. It could be a arrow, car or thoughts coming at you. You must be aware of your environment, look for ailments, cure them or remove yourself from that environment.

How do I know when a house is completely wrong for me?

If your life falls apart, your relationships deteriorate, your money goes out the window, your health fails, and you cannot think clearly or make decisions, you are definitely in the wrong house.

What are some the most common Feng Shui Problems and their cures?

The most common problem would be a straight walkway to your home. This brings destructive energy or "Sha" into your home.

Next would be having the garage attached to the house. The Sha from the cars coming at the garage put the house in a spin affecting the Chi and the environment of the whole house.

A house located below the grade of a road weakens its occupants. It sucks energy out of you. If the house is at the same level as the road or above, the energy is strong,

What role does color play in Feng Shui?

Color is very important. White attracts and so does black. At weddings when the Chinese give away money to somebody in a red envelope with gold treads running through it, they know the money will increase. Also, the giver by giving will increase his money because giving always makes the person stronger than the person receiving. Red attracts positive things. Black attracts both positive and negative things. Different occasions require different colors.

There is a relationship between Feng Shui, color and astrology. A Capricorn's color is black, so a Capricorn person can wear more black than any other sign. Since Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, a Capricorn native is used to working with the same kind of energy that both Saturn and the color black embody. Another sign would probably have more trouble wearing black because of the type of energies it attracts and should only wear it sparingly.

What is the best type of interior lighting to install? The worst type?

The best type to use is full spectrum lighting. It is the closest effect to sunlight. Since we get 80% of our energy from the sunlight and 20% from stored sunlight in food, if you install poor lighting, such as regular fluorescent tubes, people are weakened. The government has done studies which have shown that school children introduced to full spectrum lighting in classrooms had 85% fewer absences. Their grades went up because the lighting restored balance to their energy so they could study better.

What kind of landscaping problems should I be aware of?

The most common problem is using a horseshoe or arch shaped element, such as a driveway, which arcs away from the house. This draws energy away from the house. Energies related to money and health are weakened.

Another problem is leaving dead plants around. You should find out why you have dead plants because it may be due to something that could be affecting the house and its occupants. Always replace dead plants immediately. Dead plants near an entranceway affect people entering or living in the house subconsciously in a negative way.

How does exposure influence Chi?

Whenever you are dealing with a window with a northern exposure, you are influenced by the higher magnetic field which gives you more strength than a window facing the south. A window facing east will give you more strength than a window facing the west. It is a good idea to use small windows facing the north so that the house will retain as much energy as possible.

What is the ideal room shape?

Square or rectangle shapes are ideal. Odd shaped rooms disrupt the flow of Chi energy.

What roles do shapes have in Feng Shui?

If you take the small end of a cone and place it next to a person's solar plexus, that person will feel weak. Conversely, by placing the large end of the cone next to a person's solar plexus the person will feel strengthened. If you have a bird or animal shape and you place it on its side, it subconsciously affects us as if it were dead and everyone around it will be weakened. If you have symbols of life and energy, such as a sun or flowers, it will create a sense of vitality in the room. Shapes with nice even flows and no cutting edges will enhance the energy of a room. A round table will encourage great insights but cause people around it to spin away quickly. People sitting around a square or rectangular table will stay longer, but will not necessarily get the insights. Another good shape for a table would be in the shape of the Ba-Qua -- eight sided.

What do I need to know regarding choices of furniture? Window treatments? Wall coverings? Flooring?

You should choose furniture without protruding angles. Angles tap energy from people in the room. Rounded edges on furniture are best.

Window treatments can help the house keep the Chi energy inside as well as to protect furniture and flooring from strong sunlight. Anything which upset the house affects the energy of everyone in the house.

Wall coverings can strengthen the Chi in a room especially if they incorporate symbols of nature in their design. Symbols such as X's or diamond shapes can give strength to people.

In flooring, crosses tend to drain people especially in workplace, kitchens, or bathrooms.

You can actually use furniture, window treatments, Wall coverings and flooring to cure many pre-existing structural problems in a house.

How many entrances do I need in a room?

You usually have two entrances in a room. You usually use the longest hallway to enter. It is good to have two entrances to keep the Chi flowing throughout the house. You should designate one entrance for the most usage because it sets up the pattern for the room.

Does the height of the ceiling make a difference?

If you are in a room where the ceiling is too low, it puts pressure on your head. It is best to have a ceiling at a reasonable height. If the ceiling height changes from one part of the room to the other, a person will be weakest at the lowest ceiling level and strongest at the highest ceiling level unless there is a beam which will cut off their energy.

What are the most powerful places in the house?

If you set up a Feng Shui template from the front door, the four main corners of the entire house are the most powerful places. The next most powerful places are the four corners in each room.

How can I arrange my rooms to enhance prosperity?

There are several things you can do. Place a plant in your money corner located in the far left corner from the main entrance. Or a picture of nature. Place a fountain there or hang a crystal. You can program the crystal. Write out affirmations and put them in a red envelope in the corner.

How can I protect my house from intruders or other negative influences?

Hang a protection tool - three flutes with red tassels arranged in a star formation - over your main entranceway inside. If you have a business, you can also place one over the cash register to prevent robberies or accidents.

What role does water have in Feng Shui?

Feng Shui means 'wind and water.' Water is essential for all life all over the planet. Water represents life. It is better to swim with the current rather than against it. One of the main tenets of Feng Shui is to go with the Chi energy, not against it.

Is the "Chi" in a building affected by seasons? Latitude and longitude? Hemispheric placement?

It is affected by seasons. In summer, there is more sunlight and energy. People are attracted to pastel colors. They wear less clothing, eat lighter food. Decorations can be softer. You can play to the light more in summer in your house. In the winter you can create the missing energy by bringing in more color, brighter decorations, more lights, candles. You eat more yang foods to give you energy.

The closer you are to the north pole, the stronger you will be. There is a stronger magnetic field in the northern hemisphere. You find the most wealth and the least amount of crime in the northern and eastern sections of most cities in the USA. In the south, you find poverty and crime, especially violence. This is a general rule and there are always exceptions.
