Questions to Wind & Water from
January/February 1998
December 1997 - January 1998
My husband's zodiac sign is Cancer (7-17-69). He is a therapist, but he's not so successful in his career. In fact, he already took his state board exam five times but always failed and now he is out of a job. How can we improve his career? How can we improve our financial needs? Sometimes we cannot pay our bills.
He has Saturn squaring his Sun. After his birthday this year, things should improve. In the meantime, he can put his career affirmations in his money corner written as if they already happened and in a red envelope. Both of you write your money affirmations.
Is it bad if the comfort room's door opens outward instead of inward? What is the cure for this?
It is fine as is. Don't do a thing but keep the door shut at all times.
They say that a decorative (ceramic or stone) frog means fame and prosperity. How can I place this inside the house? Is it facing the entrance door or not? How about the elephant (means prosperity), is it facing the door or not?
Have both the frog and the elephant facing the entrance door. Make sure the elephant's trunk is up. If not, get rid of the elephant.
I just purchased a mirror from you, and I am confused about some things. The directions say you should hang it outside your home over the front door, but it also says you can hang it over any door. I have no space over my front door because there is an overhang there. Does it matter which door? I put it above our sliding glass doors at the back of our house. That door is used more frequently than the front door anyway. Can it be hung inside the home? If so, are there any specifications for doing so? I don't know if this matters, but my back door faces west, so the front faces east. Also, if I buy another mirror and hang it above another door, how do I refer to the Feng Shui chart that I have? The eight areas will be in different locations depending which door the mirror is hung over, correct? HELP! I am so confused!!
You can hang it over the door you use most often such as your sliding door. You can hang it inside if you wish. If you do hang it inside is should be facing the door either on the wall or on an easel. The eight lifestations areas are fixed by the door you use most often.
I am confused on how to superimpose the ba-gua mirror over the plan of my house. I don't know where my prosperity area is. My front door faces northeast. Our master bedroom is in the southwest. Do I align the compass north direction of my house with the north of the ba-gua? My husband has a hard time finding a job and his business attempts don't work out, what can we do to enhance our prosperity section?
The ba-gua mirror is hung over the front entrance door to your home. The lifestation diagram is used by standing in the main entrance to your home. Please refer to our article on this subject for further explanation. Your money corner is the far left corner of the house from the main entrance. Put a plant in this money corner with his money affirmations in a red envelope.
Is there a specific spot to locate my bed? I have a lot of trouble sleeping and I just recently changed the bed in a north-south direction.
Head to the north, your feet to the south is a perfect arrangement for your bed. Also, remember that you should be able to see the entrance to the bedroom from the bed.
I have a question about how to use the chart in my house. We park at the rear of the house and enter in the back door into the kitchen. The kitchen leads into the living room where the front door is, which we hardly ever use. Should I use the front door (which we don't use) as the swinging door side of the chart or the entry into the living room from the kitchen (which is the way we enter the living room)?
The door used most often by all people entering your home is the way you set it.
What colors do you recommend for a Gemini born May 23rd?
I need more information. Is this color to wear or colors for a particular room in your home? Is this color for a business and if it is, what type of business is it? Send information and I will answer next month.
My wife practices a type of Feng Shui in our home. She is Native American. Does the energy fields she creates affect me as they do her? She says yes.
She is right. They affect everyone in the house.
I live in a second floor apartment. I took measurements and discovered that it was a rectangle. I am able to come in through the career section. If I take my floor plan and extend it out to a square and divide equally, then I am missing two-thirds of the Wealth/Prosperity, Fame/Reputation, and Love/Marriage sections. Looking from the entrance, the Wealth/Prosperity section is the master bedroom which goes out to a small balcony. The Fame/Reputation is in the kitchen and the Love/Marriage is the dining area that also opens out to a small balcony. A street is running past the balconies. With this being a second floor apartment with no yard or ability to change the landscape, how can I improve my three missing areas? I can also see the stove as I enter the apartment. (I am getting a small mirror to place over it -- anything else? And I try and keep the shades closed to the dining room balcony window since I don't want the Chi to run from my front door out into the street, (but what can I do if I want to open the blinds for some sunlight and still keep Chi)?
Hang a crystal in windows to keep Chi inside and to reflect Sha. You are not missing any corners if your apartment is a rectangle.
I'm confused because I read in one book that the front door will be always your career area, the other book tells that you must identify first the N, E, S, W so that you can locate the career area, wealth, etc. Which one is true?
The Front door is your career area.
I have a home-based business about mail order products through ordering on the phone. Do you think that there's a way to increase the number of my customers.
Put an affirmation of how many new customers you have as if you already have them in a red envelope and put it in your money corner.
My furnace/AC unit emits a constant electrical hum which can be discerned in every room of the first floor. It sits in the very center of the first floor of my townhouse (along with a half bath). It is very distracting when sitting in the dining room which is on the other side of the wall (and has a lower ceiling than the rest of the house). Also the entire place is carpeted with dark grey, flat industrial carpet. I rent and am hoping to buy my own home within the next year, so major, expensive changes are not an option.
I would use a water fountain to calm the house.
Apparently I have intuitively utilized Feng Shui principles for years -- ignorance is bliss. Kidding aside, I would just trust my feelings and, it turns out, that these feelings were very closely in tune with Feng Shui. Recently, I have begun seriously delving into this marvelous "science" and happily discovered your website this evening, December 19, 1997, nearly Solstice. Anyway, there were some questions in my mind that your Q & A page and your information page helped clear up. Your site is pleasant to the eye, feels soothing. I like your color choices and there is a "wealth" of information!
Thank you for your E-mail comments.
We have an enclosed space at an antique mall and would like to know the best placement for our objects (which are many and varied as far as wood, glass, jewelry, etc.). Nothing seems to be selling.
You have to use plenty of light for sales on such objects. If you send me more information on your store layout I will be able to give a better answer.
I was so glad to find your site and am very eager to hear from you and even more eager to fix this house the right way. I also will need to be ordering the Ba Qua. How many can be used properly and where is best for my situations? I am a single mother age 46 with a #2 west/Kun type. My son, age 12, is #6 west/Chien (two older daughters not at home).
I would put one over my front door. You may use one over back entrance.
My birth date is December 25, 1956. I purchased a new home in February 1996. The front door faces east. Is this good/bad? My home is an A-frame with lots of windows mostly on the north side.
Hang crystals in windows. Hang a picture of the entrance on the south wall of your house.
My husband and I seem to argue quite a lot. Although we love each other very much, and we have a strong spiritual bond, we have explosive arguments, frequently. I have used some cures.
If you have a fireplace or wood stove, put flowers, real or fake, on both sides. This should help. Put your pictures in relationship corner with a plant.
Is it okay or bad to put/offer coins and fruits in the altar?
It is fine to have them on your altar.
I was born on June 16, 1969. My Zodiac sign is Gemini. What kind of business do you think is best for me?
Sales is number one or anything in communications.
I live in an apartment that is on the second floor of an old house. I am interested in having my apartment "Feng Shuied." A book I read on Feng Shui talks about houses. The entrance to the house is someone else's apartment. I am assuming I should apply the Ba-gua Map to my entrance to the building and my apartment. Is that right? Also, do you know of consultants in my area? If so, what kind of questions do I ask of someone to know if they are qualified to help me? I live in Media, Pennsylvania, which is a suburb of Philadelphia.
Yes, apply the Ba-gua to your entrance and apartment. I do Feng Shui consultation over the phone and would be happy to assist you.
I purchased a business on April, 1997. Its a flower shop. I need to know how to make my business prosperous. I also need to know if my desk is located in the proper spot. Right now my office is to the right of my door, in the middle of the far wall. My desk is off to the right of the door but just a hair, and my office is quite small. Please let me know what is best.
Place your desk on the left side of the office in the far corner away from the door. When you are sitting at the desk you should be facing the door. Put plants in all your corners. Set your goals in all four corners of the office and the shop, written as they have already happened.
What are the different meanings of colors? I am a Pisces with Pisces rising. What colors would be good for my home? My apt. #is 904. I've heard that 4 is an unlucky number. Is there anything I can do with moving?
The number 4 means death in China. It also means hard work and responsibility. You can put a # l and #3 on your wall where your address is just not in line with it so we don't confuse the mailman. Look up you colors in Ted Andrews book on color. Click on this link to find out more about the meanings of numbers and how to fix them, http://www.artofplacement.com/howtousenumbers.htm
We have had 4.5 acres of land on a major highway [exit is right off the land] for ten years. Unfortunately we have not been able to sell the land even though we have had a "for sale" sign from the broker up. What solution do you have to sell this piece of land I have been researching Fen Shui by reading a book called Interior Design by Sarah Rossbach, but I am still a novice. I don't really understand the concept of Feng Shui, but I am really interested. I would really appreciate your help in this dilemma.
Place mirrors facing highway exit . Email me with the shape of the lot, are you above grade or below grade? Are there any power lines in the area? Are there any low spots on the property? What is the address to the property?
I own a wig salon that caters to cancer patients. Please advise concerning colors and objects for healing and prosperity.
Blue walls will help them. Put in full Spectrum lighting. Play classical music.
While visiting my family in Poland I've learned about Feng Shui. Of course I can read books about it and I will but besides that I would love to talk to an expert in my area in person. I live in New York and soon I'm moving to a new house so I'd like to be prepared. Can you recommend place here I can go and talk to.
We do not give out recommendations regarding Feng Shui Practioners. I am available for phone consultations if you are interested.
My house is a rectangular duplex, the garage is under a first floor and attic. The first floor has a back patio with small laundry room on the right hand and open space left. Do I count the patio to apply the Baqua?
Yes if it attaches to the house.
How can Feng Shui be used to help with manic depression?
Add plants throughout the house. Put in fountains or Aquariums with nine fish, 8 red or gold and one black.
I live in an apartment complex. The road is a perfect circle with parking in front of each building . A short straight path from the parking spots leads to the apartment. Bad chi? What can I do ?
Put a ba-Qua mirror over your front door on the out side.
What can you tell me about this present year of the Tiger?
It will be a very tough year for the capitol of China. The world will have many major environmental problems this year. It will bring a lot of people to the realization to work to improve our planet, and they respond.
Our financial corner lies in the laundry and bathroom. I have put purple colors and plants in it and mirrors on the outside part of the bathroom door. Are the mirrors correctly put or shall I put them on the inside part of the door. What else can I do to improve this corner of the house.
Keep toilet lid down when flushing and at all times when not in use. Keep drains covered when not in use. Hang red tassels above toilet and over drains on ceiling. Hang a plant in money corner.
I recently graduated from a rural and urban planning program and would like information on Feng Shui in a larger context than our immediate homes and businesses. Please guide me in finding some relevant information.
Please send me a letter with your phone number and I will call you back with information:

I recently bought a book to arrange my home in the ancient Chinese art of Placement. I'm just confused about one thing: Am I to look at my house and the rooms therein according to the eight points of the compass? In other words, say the front of my house is actually facing south? I have tried to access the question and answer web page, but my computer can't pick it up.
If your back of house is facing South then your front door is facing North.
Can you please send me a price list and what is involved with Feng Shui consultation which you send to clients.
Please call (928) 284-2961 for a Feng Shui appointment and I will explain the cost and what is involved.
We have several problems we are having trouble resolving from all the text we have read on Feng Shui. Hopefully there are some remedies that we can afford and will help our home become more in balance. First, our front door opens directly to the steps that lead upstairs, causing loss of chi? Other than remodeling is there any thing we can do? Secondly, we have a cathedral ceiling for 50 percent of our living room space. Is there any element that could balance chi flow? Our front door faces the north with no obstructions to the front door. The front and back doors are not in line with one another. Do Ba-Qua mirrors help with the stair problems and if so do they go over the door inside or out at the top of the stairs? We have an alter at the very entrance of the front door beside the stairs, is this inappropriate.
1. Hang a crystal ball between stairs and front door. Put plants at bottom of your stairs on both sides. Hang a Ba-Qua Mirror over your front door outside. 2. On the drop ceiling side of Cathedral ceiling hang two flutes at 45 degree angles using the ritual that comes with the product. 3. The Ba-Qua mirror goes on the outside of the front door. Your Alter is OK where it is But I think it would be better placed where people entering won't disturb your space.
Tony, you say the most left hand corner is good, what do you mean by the most left hand corner? My business address is 456 Reid St. Are these good numbers? My home address is l224 are these good numbers?
As you enter the front door the far left back corner of your place is your wealth corner. Business & home address are both good numbers. Click on this link to find out more about the meanings of numbers and how to fix them, http://www.artofplacement.com/howtousenumbers.htm
My question is about the color orange and what it means because I am very drawn to it and realize I have used it in about 80 percent of my home office. It's in the rug, couch, everything. Is it bad or good to have in an office? Lastly, how does Feng Shui look/relate to patterns, if one has a lot going on in fabrics like stripes mixed with organic shapes and geometric shapes?
Orange is good in a home, it gets rid of fear. If stripes are running clockwise it is good. I don't like plaids.
Is it good to have fish tanks and aquarium in the house?
Yes it is very good.
I am not very knowledgeable with Feng Shui. Because I want to enhance my life and that of my family. I have been surfing the Internet to know more about it. I came across one where I will have to locate the north point of our house, use the birthday of my husband to determine what type of house (east house, west house) he has then apply this to our house plan to determine prosperity lines, health lines, etc. In your web page, I learned about life stations. Which of the two should I apply? In your life stations, the wall along our main door is the career wall. Under my husbands east house, this portion represents a negative line. Please clarify.
The wall as you enter is always your career wall, the far wall is fame.
We have a two story home that seems to move. The house sits up from the street about 10 ft on a corner lot of a cul-da-sac . The foundation is a cut and fill. Part of the house is on a slab cut and the other half in on a fill. The engineering seems to be fine. I have placed a large water fountain on the patio in the back of the property . I heard once that a Feng Shui master had recommended that the owner drive a 2x4 into the ground to keep the house from moving. I desperately need your help.
Plant trees on the side of the house with fill. Hang flutes at 45 degree angle on the walls on fill side. Put large rocks on the corner of the fill side outdoors.
I have studied through books for about 4 years now. I set up a class last week to help people in our area learn about Feng Shui. To my surprise, 40 people showed up. I live in an area that is several hours away from any learning institutions. I'm finding that I need certification and training under someone more knowledgeable than myself if I am to do a good job helping others. Can you tell me if there is anyway of getting certified by using internet, mail , etc.
Yes call me at (928) 284-2961 and we will talk your question over and set you up for training and certification.

Is it possible to have obtained Mastership in Feng Shui in a past life? I have been studying Feng Shui For years now and feel a Natural intuition about it. I read a book on the subject (and there are many) and I feel whether or not the author is truly on target with their information and a lot of Feng Shui information is contradictory. I have found that my past lives have included many spiritual practices that in this life I have relearned or remembered. Is it possible that I have been a master all along? Or Is it required of me to jump through hoops and seek the oriental masters of this age to become one again. It thought the Master could shed some light on this subject for me. I would appreciate any input on the subject and receive it in Light and Love.
Yes, you could have been a master in a previous life, but it does not hurt to study with one in this life.
I have a fish tank where would be the best place to set it up, right now it is on my wall between my living room and kitchen, is that a good spot or not?
The best place to locate your fish tank is near the entrance.
I own my own business what can I do to get my employees to do better, or what can I do to become a better boss.
Put your employees pictures in your helpful people corner with an affirmation on how well they are doing . Write this affirmation as if it has already happened. You can also put affirmations in your New Knowledge corner on how much better a job you are doing.
Our house's primary entrance is on the south but it enters into a mudroom. A small room where one leaves their shoes and coat. To enter the living space of the house you turn right and enter from the west side. Do we use the first door, or the second door as the starting point for determining the corners? Do the relevant corners apply to the perimeter structure of the house or is it by room? We have an irregularly shaped ( backward L) grand room as our primary entrance. Which of the two northeast corners would be the money corner, the one furthest east or the one furthest north?
You always use the first door, the one you first have to pass through to enter. The corners apply to both the house and each room. The money corner is the farthest left corner from the entrance.
My husband and I have had little intimacy since our son was born five years ago. What do you suggest to alter this? Also, I am beginning a new career counseling business here and have had little success in getting one contractor to send me work. What do you suggest. Thank you for your time.
I would put a heart in my relationship corner with a picture of you and your husband. I also suggest you put the contractors card in your money corner, thanking the contractor for sending such a great abundance of work.
Our bedroom is laid out such that it there is an archway which displays a large horizontal mirror above the two sinks. This mirror reflects directly into the bedroom through an archway. I have begun putting up a towel at night -- any suggestions? Also, it would be difficult to place the bed diagonally - which would be the only way that we would not have the door at our feet -- although the door is doubled and takes up an entire wall space.
Put a Chinese screen up at night while you sleep blocking the reflection.
Our house is an irregular shape. At one of the missing corners (the wealth position), a large oak tree is growing. Would planting more trees to complete other corners be good? I love fruit trees. Would they be a good choice?
Yes and add lights near them pointing back at the house.
We have a question about the bathroom . The bathroom is above the front door and the front door goes straight up the stairs and then you see the bathroom door. To correct the fact that we keep the bathroom door OPEN most of the time ....we put little mirrors opposite the door as you instructed . You said that it is best to keep the door closed ... but there is so much light that comes through there that ..... I didn't want to keep it closed so the question is this ........ are the little mirrors opposite the door enough to keep the energy contained as you want .... or is it possible that a small bagua mirror above the bathroom door would help ........ or possibly a blue tassel ...... just wondering if we need to do more ........ i really loved the methods that you used for "cures" in fact within two weeks of you being here and me making the adjustments .. we were offered / and accepted more money at our jobs.
Hang a beaded curtain in the doorway. Light can still come through and it will help solve the problem.
I'm looking for information for my cousin who is not on the Internet. She is very interested in Feng Shui but the couple of bits of information she has refer to the Northern hemisphere. We are down here in New Zealand and I was wondering if you know of a really good place on the net to go that will have information on this part of the world.
Just flip the ba-qua. Do everything exactly opposite of the Northern Hemisphere
Our house number is 3445. Is this bad with all the fours in it? We could pay $500 to change it to 3455. Would this be beneficial?
It would be very beneficial to change to 3455. Things will then improve.
We have lived in our home almost 5 years. It has floor to ceiling windows all along the kitchen, living room, and master bedroom. We have a lovely view of the San Francisco bay and HAD a view of lush trees with landscape. The builder/owner below us has torn down all the trees and landscape. They are proposing build a massive house so high it will completely block our view and ruin our privacy. Furthermore, the whole side of our lot is exposed to car headlight traffic now shooting into these windows from the destruction of trees and plants. We have tried to work out a solution with the builder, but he doesn't care and is very nasty. Our windows look out onto our peaceful terrace with plants. So we don't want to enclose ourselves with curtains. Do you have some solutions? We use to have peace and harmony.
I would take this as a sign to move.
I was born March 26, 1958 and my sign is Aries. What type of business would be best for me?
I need your time of birth and where you were born to tell you anything.
We live in a half-duplex in a horrible neighborhood. It is run-down and full of low income housing. There is a lot of crime and unhappy people here. Our home is number 2271. My husband's birth date is 06/20/1961. Is there a way to set our home apart from the rest of the neighborhood, enjoy our home in peace and safety, and make it more attractive to potential buyers ( in about 2 years)? Can the neighborhood be overcome?
Add a number 5 on the surface where you address is and put a circle around the two twos in your address clockwise when you drawn the circles. Things will improve if you keep working on improving your place. Click on this link to find out more about the meanings of numbers and how to fix them, http://www.artofplacement.com/howtousenumbers.htm
I have been reading several books... I am however, confused. If the entrance or front door to your home is always in the north.. ? the reality is that my front door is either south or west (uh, southwest?) .. have some trouble as there are two front doors.. as there was an addition some years ago (before I lived here.) How do I start with this.. sometimes I think I may have calculated all wrong!
Use the entrance that faces closer to South and you will be fine.
I am looking for information on how using Feng Shui in the classroom can affect children's behavior and class management. I am also interested to see if there is any information which proves which ideas in classroom interiors help establish harmony in the classroom. If you can recommend any good books, websites, articles, etc.. on this matter I would greatly appreciate. I am currently enrolled in an elementary school credential program and I am writing a paper on Feng Shui.
Full spectrum lighting improves classroom behavior by 83%, less absences and overall improvement in grades. Put plants in corners. Add 50" dowels on two side of the room will keep students calm and attentive. Read Light Medicine of the Future by Dr. Lieberman.
I raise llamas - a delightful business in which I sell animals and breeding services. I've just begun enhancing the wealth and fame areas of our home. My question is -do I treat the barn? It's fairly open with large doors on all sides...a perfect square and I put prayer flags up in the wealth corner to blow in the wind. I thought some wind chimes might be a nice addition. Of course, I can't do any of the finer things as these playful critters turn almost anything into toys. ....is this a good idea or is Feng Shui just meant for humanoid dwellings. I do spend a good deal of time in the barn.
It is a good ideas and works on both humans and animals. The flag, chimes and add a Ba- Qua mirror over the entrance door and things should be great.
I have a perplexing problem. I'm trying to figure out the "main doorway" in a room that has 3 (3 different walls) and the 4th wall is a window looking outside. One doorway is to the back hallway foyer (for the back door which we use 99% of the time), one doorway is to the kitchen (which is used 99% of the time also), and the 3rd doorway leads to the hallway towards the bedrooms and bathrooms (which of course we also use all the time). I was reading in some books to set up the octagon on the "main" doorway, but in this room, which would it be?
The one closest to the front door of the house.
I just e-mailed you a few minutes ago then went to the questions and answers page and now I am really confused. I assumed I would use the Ba Qua in the living room but is it really the whole house. If the whole house, I have just purchased a buffet cupboard for my entrance way and was looking at either a dragon or stone statue to put on it. Which would you recommend and is there a special type of dragon or statue that would be best. In the house our lounge, kitchen and dining run in a line and are all open plan so if you say the room does this count as one room or three and what door do I use as there are not really any actual doorways.
Use a dragon with a fake vine in his mouth. They are one room. There has to be an entrance to this one long room. If more than one use the one that people enter most often.
Our living room has a doorway in the relationship corner and then along the children area is only a half wall and we also have a doorway in the career area. Can you advise me how to cure this problem. I have noticed since moving to this house that our marriage is suffering and the children are always misbehaving.
Hang a heart and a picture of the two of you above the doorway in the relationship corner. The marriage will improve. The children all should have a picture of the whole family on it.
I have another question for you about my husband, he invested into a high risk investment and it isn't going well, I need to know what we can do to make it better. His birthday is Nov. 4 1961. He is very worried.
Being worried wont help. High risk investment bring a lot of tension into our lives, and when we are tense we set up a magnetic field keeping us from having what we want. Put a fountain in your money corner of your bedroom with the affirmation that your investment was a success. Write it in the present tense or as if it has already happened. Then stop worrying and thing should go fine.
First of all, sorry for my bad English . Just a question. When I arrived this new home, I was married. Twenty days later, I divorced. I'm still alone, with my little boy. I work as Questioned document examiner, I have my desk at home. The amount of work decreased a lot also..the same as my money..I tried to do everything right with the basic principles of Feng Shui...But in front of the principal room I have big-enormous crystal-wall and after it huge windows on my own desk. Almost every week, at least two/three bulbs crash at home.. I live in a building. A destination of an Avenue is coming jut to finish in the front door of this building, but jumping down....Weekly one or two cars crash on it. Does it have any relation with my live? What colors are the best for re-decorating my desk?
Put a Chinese screen behind your desk protecting your back. Put chimes in the main windows outside. Add plants to all four corners of your office. Bun red candles in your new house fore eight days and things will change for the good.
Do the fountains you advertise for sale include a pump; are they electrically operated? I ask because I live in a 220 country not the US. Can you ship items to Israel as well as in the US?
The pumps are made for US standard 110v. WE do ship all over the world.
I have overhead fans in several rooms which I cannot remove - is there a Feng Shui cure I can use to avoid displacing energy?
Put red dots on top of the fan blades and make sure the fan spins clockwise as if you are looking down from the roof.
My house is beside a bank. I can see the entrance of the bank from the window in my dining area. Is this good or does it disrupts the flow of good chi inside my house?
It is fine.
My bathroom is located in the wealth area of the house and is also sharing a wall with my bedroom. I do keep the toilet lid closed especially when flushing, and also the sink and the tub drains remain closed when not in use. I have hung a bagua on top of the bathroom door facing the outside, but I have also read in one Feng Shui book that bagua is never to be placed inside the house. Should I replace it with a full size mirror to be hung in the outside of the door.
A Ba-Qua is fine inside the house.
There is a pantry/storage located in the marriage corner of my house, would this affect me in any way?
NO, this is fine.
