I am opening a hair salon. We are going to have wood furniture and round desks. We will also have a fish tank and many plants. The one thing I am not sure of is what color the walls should be to pro-mote good Feng Shui. Also, the color of the outside of the building. If you could help me that would be great.  Thank you.

I live in a fairly large single story house with 5 other roommates, one of which is located outside on the other side of the garage in an in-law type unit. My question is about a missing portion of the house. The structure was built in the shape of a U. From the front door, the left side is kitchen, half bathroom, bedroom, garage and in-law unit. The left side also includes a missing Knowledge corner off the kitchen and garage. On the right side are 4 bedrooms and the main bathroom. From the front door, if you look straight, there is the front living room and what used to be the porch off the front living room to a courtyard type area, now converted to a bedroom. I'm wondering if I need to some- how set up Feng Shui to enhance the courtyard.  The measurements I think include full missing Fame and Health areas and partial missing Family, Wealth, Marriage and Children areas. There's a very large swimming pool just beyond the courtyard.

Will burning Epsom salts and alcohol in my 13- year old son's room help him to sleep better? He is having much difficulty with noises disturbing him. How is it done? I'm am new to Feng Shui.  

You only burn that periodically. It should help. Add a fountain to his room – that should help.

Dead plants are said to have negative energy. But is it the same for plantsthat have been deliberately left to dry (say, flowers hung up to dry and then kept as a souvenir of a happy moment, or dried aromatic herbs, such asmight be found in a kitchen, hanging from the ceiling)?

I am very interested in finding out more about Feng Shui - I know very little. It makes sense to me to control the positive and negative energies surrounding one. As my work environment seems to have a lot of negative or 'Evil' forces at work, I would dearly like to change this and I believe that with Feng Shui this can be achieved.

We are in the process of moving into a new house, and will soon be focusing on the master bedroom, trying to apply Feng Shui as we do it. We have seen it claimed that having living plants in some locations can be “negative.”  In one idea for the “new” bedroom, there are plants envisaged (albeit relatively small ones). One of us is for this idea (aesthetics, color, living things, etc.), and one is against (plants use oxygen, have certain toxic features, etc.). (I won't say which is which, and it doesn't really matter!) We both know that plants make oxygen in the day and use it at night. But is this the only “negative” aspect of living plants? The biologist among us claims that the usage of oxygen at night is so small (less than that of the dog that occasionally sleeps in the room) that it couldn't possibly have an effect (the room is large, about 3m X 4m X 2m).
The other claims this is not so, and that there are other “negative” aspects to be also considered, citing the tendency of hospitals to not permit flowers in patients' rooms. While we both accept that some things can be felt to be “right” by intuition, to ban plants and flowers from the bedrooms would mean no plants at all on the first floor (three bedrooms and a poorly lit internal landing), which one of us feels is "ridiculous." So, we are now of a mission to unearth facts behind this claim that “plants can be bad.” And thus - if we can accept the results - to restore some calm!

Plants in a bedroom are good for you; add as many as you want.

I believe I have arranged areas in my apartment to both correct and enhance all sectors. I have had some success educationally, financially I have been able to make ends meet, which is good, but I would like to know if there is

Chinese death??), and our apartment building's number is 32 (5). Are these numbers ok? She demanded the bigger bedroom for herself (it is in my desired area ... South East corner of the apartment). Hello, I was born 5-23-72 around 8pm. My current address reads 11922 Kling St. #103. I have so many questions but I will limit them to the two most crucial. First, I want to have a successful and fulfilling career in acting, directing, producing in television and film. Since I have graduated from college and moved to LA, my life (including my relationship and regular job) seems so stagnant. My current job that pays the bills does not allow me the time to pursue the entertainment industry. Why is this? You have to go after what you want. If you put affirmations concerning your acting career in your money corner, you will get what you desire. Align the Ba-Qua with your personal front door.

I have known my fiancé (of 2 years) for the last 12 years. Last year we bought a house together. Address is 2150. Circular drive, north entry, no missing Ba-Qua (rectangular). We have a half an acre of land and he can grow anything; he is one with nature. We have had nothing but good feelings in this space since we moved in. When you say that in Australia, in the southern hemisphere everything is opposite, does that mean the FAR RIGHT hand corner of our house is our WEALTH corner and the FAR LEFT hand corner is the ROMANCE corner? Also, you have said to place affirmations in bedroom and main corner of house, depending on what you answer to the first question our bedroom is situated in the far right of the house. Do I just use this one room or should I use the living room, as well?

No, I am just talking about the North-South orientation. You want your house to face North, which is a flip from the Northern Hemisphere. Your Money corner is the far left from the entrance, just like the Northern Hemisphere.

Hi, I was just wondering what's the best thing I can do because it seems like that money just goes out too fast. My Wealth corner is directly in front of my front door which is the far left of the room. I placed a plant there and on the left wall of the wealth section is a small octagon mirror with candle holders on each side and their color is white. the mirror is directly in front of the stairs going up to the second floor; is this good or bad? We bought a house the address is 5835- is it good? Our present address is 9105. Birth dates: Oct 21-56; my husband, Dec 9-54; daughters July 8-83 and July 7-87. Please tell me the best location for my wind chimes. My door faces East. I am born in July 1963 and my Kua number is 3, and my best direction is East. My rear door in the kitchen faces North; I have French doors in the dining room which face West. My intention was to hang my wind chimes in the hallway about nine feet away from the front door. I have just begun to discover Feng Shui and, as I keep tropical fish, I was wondering whether Feng Shui could be used within the tank, or whether the tank, itself, requires a specific placement with a room? My husband is a musician by heart but works in a factory. He writes great songs and sings just as well, but seems to hit dead ends every time he tries to seek success in this area. Our house is a split entry style (door is halfway between floors) so there is a staircase going up and down immediately inside the front entry. My house is small and my family are made up of 7 (me, my wife and five kids. Our master room (refer to attach) is used for 5 of us ( all our 3 young kids sleep on the floor and me & my wife on the bed.) In giving you information on my husband’s date of birth (2/15/65 in Philadelphia) and my own (6/11/65 in Philadelphia around 7:20 a.m.), I forgot our children. In response to my June 98 question re above subject I was hurt three times at work during the early 90's. The company fired me rather than address the injuries. I am still awaiting a response from the worker's compensation board for a hearing that took place last September, 1997! I went to a chiropractor who left me feeling worse with spasms after almost each treatment. I continued even though my intuition said otherwise as I wanted to get better. I have since found another chiropractor who, I believe, is helping me. It has been a difficult road and very painful one.
At the beginning (1990's), a deep breath, coughing, or sneezing, would be painful. The injuries are mid back . I am unable to strengthen with weights. Any activity (washing floors, vacuuming, would bring on spasms). We believe that the muscles have pulled the spine out of alignment because of the sever spasms that have occurred over the years. I could never eliminate the spasms, and the pain is quite severe. It was almost constant but has eased up since this current treatments. He is using a piece of equipment called the "activator." Fortunately, I do have insurance but I did not for many years. It has been very hard for me. I hope that this chiropractor is the right doctor for me.

I just sent you a message for the newsletter, but I have a question. How can I increase my ability to think better? I put a plant on a enclosed table with two candles in a light lavender holder and a dark purple holder, his rosary and a stone with the impression of Jupiter on it. In the cabinet I placed his grandfather’s bible and his great grandmother’s bible, a book on nutrition, and my spiritual cards. On the day of his final I lit the candles and said a pray for him, hoping that this would help him. I guess you could say I am trying hard. I am just learning about Feng Shui through my mother-in-law. My husband and I have been trying for over 3 years to have children. We are a little reluctant to use any methods other than just natural things--herbs and what not. I am very curious about the corner in which pregnancy falls. I am opening a new gift shop in a building with three other shops. The building is "L" shaped, and my shop will be upstairs in the top of the "L." You enter through the second door at floor level and go up the stairs located on the right side of the retail space which is rectangular. My question is how do I establish my physical life stations--as if I looking at the room as I enter from the right or as the space sits within the building?

I am delighted to have found your site, since I have been reading as many of the books on Feng Shui as our library system can supply, and am gradually absorbing its complexities. One problem has me baffled, however, as I apply these principles to my home. The house faces East. The stairs ascend directly in front of the main entrance which opens into a vestibule, then a sharp right turn into the living room. At the top of the stairs there is a straight hallway leading to the door to my private home office. I have hung a 40 mm crystal over the bottom stair to help stop my wealth from flying out the front door. Should I put a mirror on the outside of my office door? And would it be advisable to hang a semi-sheer curtain at the top of the stairs
in lieu of a bead curtain (would like to know where to get one) ? Thank you for your reply.

What you have done is fine. You should hang a Ba-Qua mirror outside your office door, and the sheer curtain is fine.

I’d like to begin implementing Feng Shui principals to enhance our lives. The address of this home is 1115, and it is across the street from a house with a busy railroad behind it. What problems can that cause and how do I fix it besides moving? Also...we use the kitchen entrance most often because it is more accessible from the driveway. We have two dogs which have full run of the house while we are home, and three ferrets which are cage kept most of the time upstairs.
